Om Shanti Om grosses over US $19 million

Eros International, the leading integrated company within the Indian media & entertainment sector announces an unprecedented opening of Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shanti Om, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Farah Khan. The film opened to rave reviews and advance bookings on the 9th November and has since grossed over US$19 million worldwide in its first week making it the most successful opening in Indian cinema history.

Om Shanti Om released across 1,400 plus screens globally, and for the first time saw screenings as early as 7.45 a.m. in certain multiplexes in India, making it one of the most anticipated films in recent times. Om Shanti Om’s staggering first week gross collections of US$13.5 million in India make it the best ever opening there. The figures overseas are no less remarkable with the film grossing $1.5 million at the UK box office and over $2million in North America in its first week.

With the film opening in cinemas in India to a fantastic 95-100 percent capacity audiences and maintaining a steady 80-90 percent from Monday, Om Shanti Om promises to be the biggest film of SRK’s career.

Om Shanti Om stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles. The film's score and soundtrack has been composed by the musical duo, Vishal Shekhar with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. Cinematography for the movie is by V. Manikandan whilst editing is handled by Shirish Kunder.

Om Shanti Om is a story of love, dreams, betrayal and destiny revolving around a film actor ‘Om’ (Shah Rukh Khan) and his love interest ‘Shanti’ (Deepika Padukone). Om was a junior artist and Shanti a superstar in the 1970’s. He was her biggest fan. She was his biggest inspiration.

The film has over 30 of Bollywood's hottest stars including Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and many more putting in a guest appearance.

Alessandra De Rossi

Alessandra Schiavone De Rossi, better known by her stage name Alessandra De Rossi (born on July 19, 1984 in England, United Kingdom), is an Italian-Filipino actress. She is the younger sister of actress Assunta De Rossi.

She was once overshadowed by the showbiz success of her older sister, Assunta. However, her genuine ability to act allowed her to eventually outshine the former. Her career took off after exceptional portrayals in different drama films including the critically acclaimed Mga Munting Tining (Small Voices) and Homecoming, where she portrayed a Canadian-based domestic worker who visited her home in a rural town in the Philippines, bringing with her the deadly disease SARS which she spreads among the residents.

Alessandra won the part of Valentina, the villainess of the popular comic turned fantaserye (fantasy TV series), Darna, which aired on GMA network in 2005. The show fared exceptionally well in the ratings, earning her additional attention for her show stealing performance.

De Rossi’s latest offering was the Singaporean-based horror film The Maid where she played the lead role of Rosa, a housemaid in Singapore. The film was a box office hit both locally and in neighbouring Asian countries.

Like her sister, Assunta, who had posed for men's magazines (one of which is FHM), Alessandra did too as the cover girl for April 2008 of the said Magazine. She is a Star Magic Batch 6 alumni.

Michael V. on the Cover of Reader's Digest September 2008 Issue

Filipino comedian Beethoven del Valle Bunagan, popularly known as Michael V, still can't believe that he was on the front cover of Reader's Digest 5th Annual Humor Special, becoming the second Filipino to grace the cover of the well published international magazine (the first was Former Philippine President Cory Aquino).

The comedian said he was so surprised because he thought the magazine would only write a feature story about his life.

“Ang alam ko lang may feature. ‘Di ko alam na mag co-cover pala."

Michael V said that the recognition made him feel good.

Asked what might have prompted Reader's Digest to choose him for its next month's cover, he quipped: “Ang pinagbasehan nila siguro yung Asian TV awards. Kasi nanalo na ako ng 3 beses sa Asian TV awards as comedy actor."

The report said the magazine’s feature on him was no-laughing matter as it delved into Michael V’s life seriously.

He said the magazine wanted to know how he got his distinguished sense of humor.

“Tinanong nila ‘yung history ko as a person hindi lang talaga as komedyante, hindi as a professional. Inalam nila kung bakit nagkaroon ng gano'ng klaseng humor ang isang Michael V."

Michael V., in the accompanying article in Reader’s Digest, on why his real name is Beethoven del Valle Bunagan:

“My father named me after the German composer Ludwig van Beethoven, not because we shared the same birth date — mine’s December 17, 1969; his December 16, 199 years earlier — but because my father saw a copy of Beethoven’s record in his boss’s office and didn’t know that Beethoven was a surname. My stage name is derived from two performers I admire: Michael Jackson and Filipino singer Gary V.”

On his easy transformation from one character to another, Michael V said:

“Some people wonder how I can get into the different characters’ heads so easily. The make-up and costumes help a lot. Once I see myself in front of the mirror, I can easily transform into the person I need to be. Having said that, there’s always a bold line that separates the real me from the characters that I play so when people ask me if I’m scared that I won’t be able to get back to the real me, I just laugh. I mean, I don’t go around in ladies’ dresses when I’m with my kids at a mall.”
